What

Photo-based installation
Helsinki / Karjaa · 1996 / 1998

How

Journey to the Village
33 panoramic photographs digitally printed on handmade paper
Size approx. 20 × 30 cm

Part 2: The Village
11 chromogenic color prints
Size 110 × 90 cm

Notes

Delicately suspended prints create the impression of a journey toward a village.
The portraits, arranged in a circular formation, represent the people encountered there.

The sculpture project was commissioned by a restaurant chain. I was given free rein to create works that suited the theme. I headed to scrapyards and junkyards, collecting anything that seemed to carry the strange fascination of machinery. I combined motors, gears and pipes into machines that worked. Not quite for real, but in their own way, creating just the right atmosphere.
